5-Axis CNC Machining

5-Axis CNC Machining

RBR Machine is a cut above the rest when it comes to all things 5-Axis machining. Whether you need a full production run or you’re in the product development stage, we have you covered. We are confidently able to cut just about any material, with the tightest tolerances, usually within a few thousandths of an inch or less. 5-axis cnc milling saves time and is ideal for creating complex and unique parts like those found in the aerospace, automotive, and solar & wind industries.Box of metal cylinders

“We say what we do and do what we say….”

5-axis refers to the number of directions in which our machines can operate. This allows us to approach the desired material from virtually any direction. The X, Y, & Z axis all move in a linear path while the A & B Axis rotate. The A & B Axes allow for the best possible connection between the cutting tool and the material. This production process is the gold standard when you’re looking for precision machine work.

5-Axis CNC Benefits

  • Quicker lead times – 60% or more of parts created in a CNC machine shop will require machining on 5 sides. 3-Axis machines can get most jobs done, but 5-Axis will do it faster and more efficiently. The 5-Axis machining process requires less setup compared to the 3-Axis process. Less setup time will shorten lead times and save our customers money!
  • Complex Geometry & Shapes: You could argue that this is the most recognized benefit linked with the 5 Axis machining process. Additional movements allow for removing arcs and angles that could only be done prior with additional set-ups.
  • Improved Accuracy: fewer set-ups equates to less room for potential error. In some cases, some projects can be completed in a single setup. This alone will drastically reduce the risk of error.
  • More Satisfactory Surface Finishes – The 5-axis process allows parts to be closer to the cutting tool. The A & B rotators let CNC Machine operators use a short cutting tool that won’t vibrate as much, This will result in an improved surface finish.
